About us
Finohta is an independent,
public assessment agency working as a part of National
Institute for Health and Welfare (THL).
We produce, support and co-ordinate
health (care) technology
assessment (HCTA or HTA) in Finland. Furthermore, we
disseminate assessment results and experiences, both national and
international, within the health care system.
Our goal is to promote the use of proper evidence-based methods
in the Finnish health care system in order to enhance the
effectiveness and impact of health care.
We co-operate with members of
the entire health care field. As regards international information,
we receive data from national assessment agencies and other
organisations in the field that operate in other countries.
Objectivity, independence and a commitment to expertise
constitute our central principles.
Assessment research is carried out in
multidisciplinary collaboration between various branches. It is our
aim to react to current issues in the rapid development of health
care.
In addition to the established methods of diagnostics, treatment
and rehabilitation, we also evaluate new, emerging methods and
especially those of importance in terms of public health or the
national economy.
Finohta was founded in
1995. Our main office is located in Helsinki. Some staff members
work in Tampere. See contact
information.

Health (care) technologies are the drugs,
devices, procedures and the organisational and support systems in
the field of health care.
Health technology assessment is a form of
policy research. Through assessment the short- and long-term
effects of health care technology are studied in a systematic and
multidisciplinary way. The aim is to assist decision-making by
supplying information that is of a high scientific standard.
The service is for all professional groups in health care,
political decision-makers and the general
public. | |
